Art in the Pages is a fund raising project sponsored by the Fairfax County Library Foundation. The idea is similar to the project in Chicago - the painted cows, the elephants and donkeys in Washington D.C., etc. They asked for designs from artists for paintings on a large sculpture of a stack of books. At the same time they sought sponsors, the idea being for the sponsors to select from the submitted designs, contribute a pile of money (of various sizes depending on the level of sponsorhip desired) and once the pieces are selected, painted, paid for, etc., the sculptures are placed around Fairfax County in front of businesses and libraries, etc. I submitted three designs and all three were selected. I started painting on March 22 and paint every day, the deadline is April 15, though rumor has it that it may slip a few days. The photos below show my progress. It's really great fun. We are painting in the old library building which will be demolished when we are finished. (A good thing since we're getting paint everywhere). It's fun to meet the other artists and see their works progress. One gal came in one morning, started her piece, and was finished when she left in the afternoon. I find that very disturbing.
The first photos, below, are of my original designs (fronts only).

Below, my friend Cheryl Parsons is spraying the base color on each piece. She is a mural painter and knows how to do this stuff. Great for me that she is my friend!

I am taping off for spraying a second color on W&OD piece.

All three pieces have their base coat sprayed and I am ready to start drawing.
More to follow!
